Each time a significant awards ceremony approaches, there’s always a demand to include of new categories to honor unsung work and fill the passions of enthusiasts dedicated to specific genres.
Another commentator made the case supporting a scary games classification. That would rule. So would strategy board titles, which is a passionate advocate's mission. But they will have to forgive me for pushing forward since similar to blinkered fanatics, there's a strong justification for why my demand remains most pressing and important of all. This is the request: It's essential to create a classification for brain-teasing titles.
Categorizing Game Types
Categorizing art by genre isn't exact; it’s very subjective, and it will always start arguments resulting in unclear classifications. There’s a reason movie academies steer clear of genre categories. However, it represents an essential concession within the realm of video games, which are so diverse they barely qualify as a single art form.
To recognize the complete range of interactive entertainment excellence to gain proper attention, and to ensure all game types to have a chance for representation, genre categories are essential.
Existing Game Classification System
The major gaming awards currently feature genre categories for Action, Action/Adventure, RPG experiences, Fighting, Simulation and strategy titles, plus athletic and racing experiences. Between them, these classifications actually cover a lot of ground, making space possible for numerous titles.
This doesn't apply to puzzle games. No suitable classification appears for their placement. Consider three of outstanding current releases, showing diverse approaches: the architectural riddles in a particular game, the pulse-pounding block-matching in a different title, engaging interpersonal challenges from additional release. What category would fit them within current classifications? Nowhere, that’s where.
Acknowledgment Issues
Numerous examples exist outstanding logic titles published annually that have no home during gaming ceremonies, if they accidentally match award groups including Handheld titles, Virtual reality experiences, or the intensely contested Indie races.
- An iconic brain-teaser wasn’t nominated for anything that year
- Another imaginative release received no nominations during that ceremony
- A beloved organization game received no acknowledgment recently
- Just some brain-teasers managed to sneak into independent or mobile categories
Importance of Logic Titles
Frequently they represent modest productions, but the art in brain-teasers is of massive significance. Famous handheld logic titles stand as most popular titles globally and have been for many years.
The iconic tile-matching title rivals popular creative games for the title of highest-selling title ever; it also contends for best game of all time. Brain-teasers form essential building blocks within interactive entertainment, and they are in conversation with almost every other genre.
Proposal and Rationale
Puzzle games wouldn’t have this problem. It would be easy to populate a field of five engaging, different, qualified experiences each ceremony simply — actually, with challenge, given the need to exclude numerous deserving experiences.
And to reiterate, these are games that otherwise have no home during prominent ceremonies. Logic title developers are working at the demanding boundary of video game design, producing among the purest expressions within interactive entertainment. Just like film action specialists, they warrant appreciation. We shouldn't delay decades.
